Shixun Song

Winner, Sejong Music Competition

Shixun Song is a rising 10th grader at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. He has been playing piano for 12 years and currently studies piano with Li Wang of the University of Cincinnati. He has also studied with Elaine Felder and Yumy Lee Kim of the Music Institute of Chicago, as well as privately with Brenda Huang. He has participated in masterclasses with Lovre Marusic, Marian Hahn, and Alexander Korsantia, among others.

He has won first place in the Sejong Music Competition and the Fiorito International Music Competition and has received honors in many others, including the DePaul Concerto Festival, the Walgreens National Concerto Competition, and the MTNA Piano Competition.

In addition to solo piano, Shixun is an avid chamber musician. He has performed in the quarterfinals of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition as part of Trio Tempest, the youngest ensemble to ever be accepted to the competition. They have also been invited to perform in the 37th season of the Young Steinway Concert Series.

At school, Shixun plays the alto saxophone in the concert band and is a dedicated member of the handbell choir and Chamber Music Society. Outside of music, he enjoys participating in the scholastic bowl team and flow arts club.
